MESSAGE FROM BISHOP ALAN McGUCKIAN
I spoke to Mags Moran, the Infection Control Officer, after hearing last night's statement (Friday 27th March) of the Taoiseach and, with her encouragement, I have decided that all funeral services should be conducted only at the interment in the graveyard with no more than 4 family representatives, as per the Covid-19 guidelines. We do not want to lock our churches but the Government have placed very strict limits on movement. The Cathedral doors will be left open as a symbol but the entrance gates locked. This symbol at the Mother Church of the Diocese speaks for us all.
FUNERAL GUIDELINES FOR THE PARISH OF NEWTOWNCUNNINGHAM & KILLEA UNTIL EASTER
SUNDAY ~ In light of our Bishop's statement which we received on Saturday morning, the Requiem Mass for deceased parishioners will be postponed to a later date when regulations are lifted. We realise this will be very difficult for families who are bereaved and grieving, but in these extraordinary times it is our only option.
